Mette Grøngaard is an award-winning contemporary artist and designer whose work is rooted in a deep sensitivity to the natural world. With a focus on the relationship between humans and nature, she creates poetic, illustrative works that explore the sensory language of nature and our potential for reconnection.
From her studio in Copenhagen, Mette draws inspiration from her upbringing on the Danish west coast — a landscape that continues to shape her artistic voice.
Mette’s artworks arise from moments of quiet presence, where the thinking mind steps back and the senses lead. Her process is informed by her nature-therapeutic practice and her deep attention to atmosphere, form, and material. Working with watercolor, ink, and pastel, she brings together the real and the abstract, the graphic and the ethereal. Her feminine color palette reflects nature’s dual character — the soft and the wild, the beautiful and the raw — creating works that invite stillness, contemplation, and deep resonance.
At the core of her practice lies a belief that reconnecting with nature can shift our perspective — reminding us that we are part of, not separate from, the living world. This awareness fosters empathy, presence, and a deeper sense of responsibility for the ways we shape our lives and societies.
Mette holds a MA in Graphic Design, DSKD – Kolding School of Design, Denmark, and is a certified instructor in Nature-based Therapy and Mindfulness. She has studied art and graphic design in Paris, France.
Mette has exhibited in a range of galleries, and her artworks are held in private collections in Denmark and abroad, as well as by international Danish corporations. Her work has been featured in respected Danish and international art and design publications and was in 2025 rewarded with The Curators Award at the 11th Geoje International Art Festival in South Korea.
